Gypsy | | Gypsy has been through more than what any dog deserves. However, I think her biggest break came when her foster family decided to adopt her in 2007. Gypsy is a symbol of courage through adveristy: Hurricane Katrina, gunshot, advanced heartworms, kidney disease...she is a survivor and refuses to lose her loving spirit. Here is Gypsy eating her adoption celebration cake. Way to go Gypsy--I know your future is secure and loving with such a great adoptive family! |

Hoover | | Hoover has found a fantastic home! We were recently updated by his adopters with this great photo of Hoover enjoying himself at his new home. |

|
Lucky | | Lucky was adopted by his rescuers and able live the remainder of his life off a chain and healthy. He never was able to fully bond to any person or other dog, but he he did wag his tail everytime you sang "Lucky, Lucky, Lucky" to him. He enjoyed being pet by kids, adults, and visitors alike. He loved his new high quality diet of Merricks and California Natural dry and wet food with vegetables and yogurt mixed in on different days, but preferred that you were near him while he ate. He wanted to reach out, but just didn't know how. Lucky's legacy should be that no dog deserves to be left on a chain for 10 years without any medical attention or proper diet. Dogs want to be part of the family and are happiest and most balanced when they are permitted to exercise and be integrated compeltely with their "pack", their "family". |

Simone | | Simone, now also known as Bella, is in love with her adopters (as they are with her!)! We could not have asked a more perfect family for this very bella Bella! Currently (March-April 2007), they are taking a series of private lessons with the Lee Mannix Training Center. They are learning a lot and are thrilled with the progress they and Bella have made to date! |

|
Samuel | | Samuel was adopted by a Univeristy of Texas student who has a passion for dogs. Samuel is enjoying the college schedule and his new pack. He is really blossoming under his adopter's obvious devotion. This miracle puppy couldn't have found a better family to share his precious life with after being one of the few able to call themselves "Distemper survivors". |

Cheyenne | | Adopted by Ron Cole. The minute he met Chey, he was a gonner - just couldn't resist her charms and sweetness. She joins the family of a female Rottie (Daisy May), female Pit Bull (Sandy), and male Corgi (Seth). She is a nice addition to the mix. |

She is calm and laid back providing the family an opportunity to wet their feet in responsible dog ownership with a classy older lady! Jazz is surely happy with such a loving family to settle into her forever home and provide them wet sloppy kisses back! Jazz thanks Dena and Sarah for giving her the opportunity to find this wonderful home and will never forget them! |

Goldie | | Goldie is now Hayley! Here is an update from Hayley's adopter: "Haley is doing great. I just can't get enough of her! She is such a sweet
loveable dog. As far as I'm concerned, she has found her forever home with
me. I haven't felt this way about a dog since Chase found me over 8 yrs
ago. All is going well. No complaints from the neighbors about her barking
and howling since I moved her crate in the room with the other dogs. I
really enjoy our alone time. She is such a snuggle bug. And when we go on
our walks, I let her off leash to run and she has so much fun. I see a lot
of Border Collie traits in her antics. She is already a wonderful pet and I
think we are going to have lots of fun with canine freestyle and later when
she is a little older, I think she will be a wonderful therapy dog."

Luke | | Luke was adopted by a wonderful couple who are providing him an excelennt home where he will recover from shoulder surgery for Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD)(a hereditary disease). OCD is primarily a problem in large or giant breed dogs. It affects male dogs 2 to 5 times as frequently as females, most likely due to the males’ larger size and increased stress on the joint. It generally occurs when the animal is between 4 and 8 months of age, though it can show up in older dogs. There are several breeds that despite being larger breeds, have decreased incidences of the disease including the Doberman Pinscher, Collie, and Siberian Husky. OCD is treated by pain management if mild or surgical. The surgery is very straightforward. The affected joint is opened and the offending flap, defect, or joint mouse is removed. There is a very high success rate for surgery and most animals recover fully without any further problems. Lucky Mutts and Animal Trustees provided the surgery and was covered by donations. A large donor was the couple who adopted Luke. Thank you and we wish you the best and are here for you for any future issues.

Bagheera | | Bagheera is doing fabulously with her new adoptive parents and sibling, Sampson, pictured with her playing. Bagheera completed basic training. She enjoys playing and hanging out and chasing cats if she can find one. She is currently learning to bring back the tennis balls. Bagheera has come a long way from the Town Lake Animal Center where she was scheduled for euthanasia only hours before Lucky Mutts pulled her. She was a large dog with some confidence issues that would scare away potential adopters in the kennel setting. But, she has flourished in her wonderful fosters' home, allowing her to find a great adoption placement after several months of confidence building and regaining her full health after heartworm treatment! |

Millie | | The 2007 new year brought us some lovely thoughts from Millie's adopter tha brought smiles to our faces: "As I was thinking about Millie this morning snuggled up by my neck, paws over my shoulder (the morning position before exiting the bed), I was thinking about y’all. .... Millie is doing great except on 4th of July and New Years. She is deathly afraid of the fireworks. I tried to console her by holding her but nothing seems to work; she is just scared out of her gourd! The end result is a full bladder and too afraid to go outside, so those are the only two accidents she has had inside. Other than that, she is God’s perfection and a true blessing to me, my family and our grand son. PS She does well with kids also!" |

Sophie | | Sophie was adopted by a wonderful man in South Austin. Sophie was in foster care for nearly 1 year due to her precocious behaviour! However, while in foster, she received basic obedience training and received her Canine Good Citizenship Certificate from the AKC. Her adopter continued with her training to learn how to best communicate with her and set her boundaries. And it has been a success! Sophie Jean is her new name and with patience and love she has blossomed from her original street life to a most beloved pet.

Leo | | Leo's cancer has gone into remission!!! Leo was adopted and then returned after nearly 2 years when he was diagnosed with cancer and required expensive surgery that his adoptive parents were not in a position to afford. Lucky Mutts takes all of their dogs back, no questions asked--be it months or years after the adoption was finalized. Lucky Mutts took him back and provided him the medical care and surgery required. AMAZINGLY! After a year and a half, the cancer has gone into remission. Leo is happy as ever on three legs and after being in hospice, his AWESOME fosters decided that he didn't need to go anywhere else and are giving him a home for the rest of his life. Leo completed his basic training, Canine Good Citizenship (AKC certified) AND therapy trianing (Divine Canine certified) and is now a working therapy dog providing comfort to people in need. He is truly an amazing story and we are all blessed to be a part of it. Here Leo is pictured on the far right, ready to join his friends for some trick or treating: Halloween 2006.
